Is Flirting Online Cheating?

online firting

It’s a tale as old as time – some famous, married celeb is outted by an Instagram model for sending X-rated messages (Adam Levine, we’re looking at you).

In the age of social media and constant texting, the line between what’s okay and what’s not in relationships can get blurry. One big question people ask is: “Is flirting online considered cheating?”

Honestly, it depends. Some people see online flirting as no big deal—just playful banter that doesn’t mean anything serious. They might not even think twice about it. But for others, it can feel like emotional cheating, especially if it’s kept secret or crosses certain boundaries – usually sexual or emotional.

The best way to figure it out? Talk to your partner. Every relationship is different, and what’s okay for one couple might be a dealbreaker for another. So, it’s important to have an open conversation about where you both stand. And if you’re the “other man/woman” and you know the person you’re chatting with is married? It might be time to break it off.

In the end, if online flirting feels shady or makes your partner uncomfortable, it might be worth reconsidering. Relationships are all about trust, and if something feels off, it’s always better to check in with each other!
