Cars are practically driving themselves and robots can do art &#8211; can you believe we&#8217;re still making up rules about when grown people can or should have sex with each other? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sadly, for many that&#8217;s the case, and women are still abiding by the &#8220;3-date rule&#8221; before they have sex so they don&#8217;t seem like a floozy. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/three-date-rule-when-sex-dating_l_637d0fdbe4b0e771d9591657\">Via HuffPo<\/a>: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cThe three-date rule is one of those things that people love to quote but nobody can ever cite,\u201d he told HuffPost, adding that it is \u201csteeped in traditional social convention\u201d and maintains \u201cheterosexist gender role expectations around dating.\u201d<\/p><p>For straight women, the guideline is intended to make sure she doesn\u2019t appear too \u201ceasy\u201d so she can uphold the \u201c\u2018good-girl-protecting-her-virtue\u2019 stereotype,\u201d Siegel said.<\/p><p>\u201cIt\u2019s based on the old trope that men won\u2019t respect a woman who is too willing to have sex on the first date,\u201d he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>But, is the 3-date rule in any way legit? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>All of our experts agreed there is no rule of thumb in regards to a set amount of dates or time to delay sex. The most important element is if both partners are \u201ccomfortable and excited about the prospect\u201d of sex, Siegel said.<\/p><p>For Battle, the right time is \u201ccompletely subjective\u201d and differs based on the people involved and their values.<\/p><p>\u201cIn my case, having sex on the first date was the beginning of my current, almost five-year-long partnership,\u201d she said. \u201cThat was what felt right to us.
