Recent studies have suggested that 60+% of singles feel &#8220;overwhelmed&#8221; by the dating world. But why? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vice.com\/en\/article\/93k9jd\/why-dating-sucks-we-asked-experts\">Experts chimed in over on Vice<\/a>, saying: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Apps have vastly altered how we date. They\u2019re certainly not going anywhere any time soon \u2013 300 million people have a dating app profile, and <strong>come 2035, more people will have\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/finding-love-online-more-than-half-of-couples-set-to-meet-via-the-internet-11871341#:~:text=More%20people%20will%20meet%20their,who%20met%20via%20the%20internet.\" target=\"_blank\">met their partner online<\/a>\u00a0than in real life.<\/strong><\/p><p>\u201cDating apps changed the digital dating landscape due to the collection of convenient features they brought to the table, which I have called \u2018intimacies of convenience,\u2019\u201d explains\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/drrachelarielkatz.wixsite.com\/info\" target=\"_blank\">Dr Rachel Katz<\/a>, a digital media sociologist at the University of Salford who researches dating apps. \u201cThey are often image-based, mobile, geolocative, use a swiping mechanism, and have a \u2018consent to chat\u2019 feature. People had an active role in choosing who they wanted to match with.<\/p><p>\u201cPeople like the convenience these features enable. But at the same time, <strong>this convenience can also bring negative experiences: transactional language,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vice.com\/en\/article\/bvzzp3\/stop-worrying-about-why-someone-is-ghosting-and-just-let-them-ghost\">ghosting<\/a>\u00a0and objectifying language. Moreover, there are fewer social ramifications to these behaviours on dating apps compared to real-life interactions<\/strong> &#8211; it\u2019s possible that repeated negative experiences might lead to dating app fatigue.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Dating apps aren&#8217;t going anywhere (in fact, we just added a new one to the field! Find OBC Dating for Android and iOS!). If we want to continue to enjoy the Single Life on apps though, we must stop acting like anonymity is a pass to be a dick. Be nice, be polite, don&#8217;t be a creep.
