What’s next??? Well – turns out, it’s “hoodfishing”. WTH? Apparently, it’s when you tell someone you live one place, when you really live farther away. The term was coined by a TikToker in a now-viral video.<\/p>\n

New York-adjacent singles are claiming to be Big Apple residents on their dating profiles \u2014 a sneaky trend dubbed \u201choodfishing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery few conversations on [a dating] app, there\u2019s a woman who is like \u2026 \u2018Oh, I live in Westchester,\u2019 or \u2018I live on Long Island,\u2019\u201d even though their profiles said they are located in the city, griped comedian Jared Fried in a\u00a0viral TikTok video<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

If it take three trains or a \u201cred eye\u201d flight to get to the date, you know someone\u2019s hoodfishing \u2014 a cousin to catfishing, in which someone makes a fake online persona to lure in romantic interests, he noted.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur first date would have different stakes,\u201d Fried said. \u201cYou\u2019re sitting there the whole time like \u2018Well, if I make the 11:42 train\u2026\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDate the suburban guys. There\u2019s a nice guy in your town who tucks his polo into his underwear that is ready to go out with you,\u201d he urged.<\/p>\n

The motivation to lie is \u201cobvious,\u201d said hoodfishers \u2014 it casts a wider net and gets you more dates.\u00a0<\/p>\n
